Documents all respondents should have been issued by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS):
Notice to Appear (NTA) click here for a sample The NTA provides basic information about you: your name, alien registration number, date and location of arrival in the U.S., and whether you were legally admitted. “Legally admitted” means that upon entrance to the U.S., an official inspected your papers and allowed you to enter. If no officials saw you enter, you were never “admitted.” This information should be checked to make sure that all of it is correct. The middle section of the NTA states the allegations and charge(s). The charges give the legal reason DHS believes that you can be deported from the U.S. It is very important to verify the allegations. If any of them are incorrect, you can deny them, and the DHS attorney will have to prove that they are true. If some of a your convictions do not appear on the NTA, this does not mean that they have been erased from your record. Convictions can be added later to an NTA.
Notice of Custody Determination click here for a sample This document states whether DHS has already set a bond for you, and if so, how much it is.
Notice of Hearing click here for a sample This document notifies you of your next hearing before the Immigration Judge. The guards at the GEO facility make sure that all detainees appear for their hearings, but if you have been released, appearing at the hearings is your own responsibility. |
