The Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network's (RMIAN) purpose is to represent indigent and low-income non-US citizens in connection with immigration and other related proceedings.
The principal areas in which RMIAN works are:
• operating a system of intake, evaluation, and referral of detained non-citizens at the Department of Homeland Security detention facility in Aurora, Colorado
• recruiting, training, and mentoring volunteer lawyers without immigration law experience, who then represent low-income and indigent detainees
• offering a Know Your Rights legal orientation presentation to every detainee scheduled for a hearing before an Immigration Judge pursuant to funding provided by the Executive Office for Immigration Review of the U.S. Department of Justice
• providing pro se assistance for detained men and women through individual orientations and group workshops
• monitoring detention conditions and transfer policy at the detention facility
• providing free representation to immigrant children who have suffered from abuse, neglect, or violence |
