The Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network (RMIAN) represents indigent and low-income non-citizens in connection with immigration and related proceedings, with a primary focus on detained non-citizens. The founding of RMIAN in 2000 reflected an expansion of the work begun in 1993 as the Pro Bono Committee of the Colorado Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. RMIAN is a Colorado nonprofit corporation and has been granted 501(c)(3) federal tax-exempt status.
Since the beginning of 2004, RMIAN has met with approximately 900 detained individuals from 47 different countries, including Afghanistan, Argentina, Armenia, Belarus, Brazil, Cambodia, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Germany, Guatemala, Guinea, Honduras, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Ivory Coast, Jamaica, Jordan, Laos, Mexico, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Samoa, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Somalia, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, and Vietnam. |
