Legal Assistant Job Announcement

RMIAN has an immediate opening for a full-time Legal Assistant who will work to support RMIAN's Detention Program and Children's Program. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Creating daily attendance lists for know-your-rights presentations at the immigration detention center in Aurora, Colorado

  • Conducting data entry and compiling monthly reports for RMIAN’s Detention Program

  • Monitoring detained individuals representing themselves and adding them to pro se workshops and special individual sessions as necessary; supporting pro bono referrals

  • Responding to phone calls to RMIAN's hotline

  • Conducting intakes with child crime victims and their family members

  • Providing support to RMIAN's attorneys working on legal cases for immigrant youth who have been victims of sexual assault, abuse and neglect, human trafficking, or other crimes (including assisting with applications and helping clients collect documentation)

  • Assisting with community outreach and presentations

  • Serving as a receptionist; performing administrative tasks such as filing, scanning, data entry; answering phones; assisting walk-ins; and assisting with scheduling appointments

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree from ABA approved paralegal program preferred

  • English & Spanish fluency, both written and oral

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and attention to detail

  • Experience and comfort working in multicultural environments

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

  • Passion for RMIAN's mission and commitment to social justice and human rights issues

  • Experience or background in immigration law strongly preferred

  • Candidate must pass a background check and clearance, and have a driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
