Job Announcement: Children's Program Family Legal Advocate

RMIAN has an immediate opening for a full-time advocate who will work to support respondents on the expedited family unit docket through RMIAN's Children's Program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide outreach and information to individuals scheduled for hearings on the expedited family dockets at the Denver Immigration Court regarding the removal process, their legal rights and available immigration status options for victims of crime

  • Provide individualized case screenings to individuals scheduled for hearings on the expedited family dockets at the Denver Immigration Court to determine eligibility for immigration relief as victims of crime

  • Provide referrals to appropriate legal resources within the community to those families who do not qualify for RMIAN’s services

  • ·Assist Children’s Program Pro Bono Coordinator with referrals of eligible families who are crime victims to volunteer attorneys

  • Support Children’s Program Staff in providing direct legal representation to eligible immigrant victims of crime

  • Coordinate outreach hosted by RMIAN’s Children’s Program to provide information to community members, child welfare professionals, educators, law enforcement officials, and others about the expedited family dockets

  • Respond to phone calls and inquiries to the Children’s Program

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date data regarding the number of individuals reached and screened on the expedited family dockets and assist in compiling monthly reports and other grant reporting duties

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree from ABA approved paralegal program preferred

  • English & Spanish fluency, both written and oral

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and attention to detail

  • Experience and comfort working in multicultural environments

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

  • Passion for RMIAN's mission and commitment to social justice and human rights issues

  • Experience or background in immigration law strongly preferred

  • Candidate must pass a background check and clearance, and have a driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
